Provocation:

What were the stakes of humanism in the context of the Cold War, Bandung, the U.N. and emergent infrastructures of international law post WW-II? If humanism has within it the very tools to articulate race in the first instance via its implied negative (the minority, the refugee, the sub-human), then what do we salvage from humanism, if anything? Can we imagine a dialectic whereby the successes and failures of the human sciences equips us with the tools for a new emancipatory global humanism?
